Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Gidon came to live in Israel in 1954. He served in Israel army Nachal corps, and was a member of Kibbutz Gonen till 1963. He was a reporter for The Jerusalem Post and later a free lance journalist. Gidon studied social science, social services planning, in Israel and Britain. He was employed by Netanya municipality 1979-99 as an urban renewal community worker in the Ramat Yadin neighborhood. He was a volunteer in ESRA,Telfed, and the Israel Genealogical Society. He wrote mongraphs on the Nachal, community research, family history; contributor to ESRA Magazine since 1988. Gidon resided in Netanya from 1975. He appreciated Jewish heritage, good books, music and humor.
